Since April 2013, Ironstone Farm has offered its Veterans Experience Program, a nationally recognized initiative designed to support veterans through meaningful, hands-on engagement with animals and the natural world. Developed in collaboration with university professors and a former Navy SEAL, and supported by partners such as Home Base, the program provides approximately 20 immersive retreat weekends each year, along with ongoing weekly sessions.
Each experience is carefully tailored to meet veterans where they are—physically, emotionally, and mentally—through activities that include horsemanship, horse care, farm animal husbandry, and purposeful farm projects. These structured, grounding interactions promote trust, emotional regulation, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Ironstone Farm offers the Veterans Experience Program completely free of charge, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to healing. By combining nature, animals, and peer connection, the program serves as a powerful pathway to restoration, reintegration, and community for veterans seeking support beyond traditional clinical settings.
