The goal of the Veterans Adaptive Sports and Training (VAST) program is to promote lifelong health, wellness, and connection for veterans with disabilities through regular participation in a wide range of adaptive sports and outdoor activities. Veterans of all abilities are encouraged to take part, volunteer, and build camaraderie with fellow service members in a supportive, inclusive environment. VAST offers year-round programming every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, Maine, along with additional one-day and multi-day activities and camps throughout the year.
Through generous donations from Run for the Troops 5K, VAST has been able to expand and strengthen its adaptive recreation programs by providing bicycles, adaptive transportation equipment, and critical program funding. These donations have directly supported the purchase of adaptive cycling equipment, including Fat Tire Trident electric-assist trikes, and the restoration of electric-assist components on existing adaptive bikes. This support allows veterans with disabilities to fully participate in cycling programs and camps alongside fellow veterans, ensuring accessibility, inclusion, and shared experiences.
The impact of Run for the Troops extends far beyond equipment — it helps restore confidence, connection, and purpose for veterans who have sacrificed so much. By supporting adaptive recreation opportunities, Run for the Troops plays a meaningful role in improving quality of life and strengthening the veteran community. We are deeply grateful for their continued commitment to serving those who have served.
